NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins

Cowboys

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of HC Jason Garrett in a radio interview on Tuesday: โ€œHeโ€™s evolved into what I think is a top coach. He would be very sought after if he was on the open market.โ€ (Jon Machota)
  • Mike Fisher is reporting that Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (quad) is in danger of not playing in Week 7.
  • Beyond that, Fisher says that Cowboys OTs Tyron Smith and La’el Collins continue to struggle with their injuries.

Eagles

Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com has a great article up exploring several speculative trade candidates that would make senes for the Eagles to pursue in the coming weeks.

Some names mentioned by Rosenblatt include:

Redskins

  • Former Redskins HC Jay Gruden said in an interview with ESPN that he agreed with Bruce Allen that the culture in Washington is pretty good: “I don’t think the culture is bad at all, quite frankly. Yeah, I can’t say anything negative about the culture right now.” (Ben Standig)
  • Gruden did say that his vision for the team didn’t always align with others in the organization: “When you’re the coach and you want to put a team together, you have a vision of what that should look like. Sometimes it doesn’t match what other people envision, and that’s where problems occur.(Ben Standig)
  • According to Gruden, they felt they needed to draft a quarterback this year, but they thought it was best to give Dwayne Haskins some time before playing: “We had to get a quarterback in the draft somewhere, sometime. Dwayne is a great prospect so we chose to take him as an organization. Unfortunately, people are excited when you take a guy at 15. They want to see him play right away. It was our professional opinion (Dwayne) wasn’t ready to step in and play in the first 5 games of the season. It will take some time for him. He only played 13 or 14 games as a college player. He’s very raw, but he’s very talented. … He just wasn’t ready when I was there.” (Ben Standig)
  • JP Finlay hears that it’s not looking great for Redskins RB Chris Thompson, who is expect ed to miss Sundayโ€™s game against the 49ers and possibly more.
  • The Redskins tried out Redskins tryouts safeties Austin Exford, Chris Johnson, C.J. Reavis, Tyree Robinson, and Maurice Smith (signed to practice squad) on Monday. (Howard Balzer)
  • On Tuesday, the Redskins worked out fullbacks Tommy Bohanon, Michael Burton (signed), Derrick Coleman, Tre Madden and Elijah Wellman. (Aaron Wilson)
