NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said he doesn’t foresee any Cowboys players being on the trading block.

“I think we’re happy with our roster,” Jones said via Jon Machota. “You never say never, but short of something showing up that’s really interesting that we think makes us better, I don’t really see a situation evolving over the next 24 hours.”

  • Jones said they’d like to find a strong safety to pair with S Xavier Woods, who’s been “even better than we thought he’d be” when they drafted him in the sixth round with a fourth-round grade. (Machota)

Giants

Giants GM Dave Gettleman left the door open to possibly sitting No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones for three years.

“Maybe we’re going to be the Green Bay model, where Rodgers sat for three years. Who knows?” Gettleman said, via Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com. “You can never have too many good players at one position.”

“We drafted a quarterback that we believe is a franchise quarterback,” Gettleman added. “That’s really the long and the short of it.

  • Giants HC Pat Shurmur says he told Eli Manning: “It’s your job to win games and keep this guy off the field.” (Pat Leonard)

Redskins

The Redskins traded back into round one to select OLB Montez Sweat, who fell due to concerns about his heart condition.

Sweat said he met with the doctor for the Texans and that he was told he has a “normal heart.”

“I’m just getting ready to play football,” Sweat said, via ESPN.com. “There will probably be the biggest chip on my shoulder there’s ever been.

  • Redskins HC Jay Gruden said they considered Sweat at No. 15 but opted for QB Dwayne Haskins because of his potential. (John Keim)
  • Gruden added that they did not talk to the Cardinals about a potential trade for Josh Rosen.
  • Gruden on if he could see Haskins competing for the starting job right away: “If you are a 15th pick of the Draft, I think you have to give him the opportunity, right, without a doubt.” (Dianna Russini)

  1. Does the above article regarding the GMEN, really seem like Gettleman and Shurmur are exuding with confidence and know all for the betterment and future of the GMEN Franchise?

Did anyone watch the interview after the Daniel Jones (one of the worse choices in the history of the GMEN Franchise) pick? Look at Gettleman’s face! Gettleman knows he ROYALLY SCREWED UP! PERIOD!!!!! All Gettleman was able to muster and spew to everyone was basically “WAIT AND SEE”. This is on the heels of Gettleman clearly stating earlier, “the TWO 1st rounders the GMEN have must be able to come in and start right away”. NEWSFLASH!!!!! Daniel Jones is nowhere near a finished college product, let alone a consideration for the 6th overall pick or a NFL starting caliber QB.

A lot of people critiqued former GMEN GM Jerry Reese about his draft picking. If anyone knows football, everyone just witnessed the 2016 GMEN Draft coupled with the 1992 Supplemental Draft reboots. All compiled into one draft last night. The reasoning follows next.

    The 2016 GMEN DRAFT REBOOT:
A1) Jerry Reese was desperate and opted for a quick defensive fix with the signing of DT Harrison, CB Jenkins and DE Vernon. Then with the 10th pick of 2016 Reese takes CB Eli Apple. The haul resulted in a DT, DE and 2 CBs.

REBOOT A1) In the 2018 Supplemental Draft. Gettleman uses the GMEN original 2019 3rd rounder which would have been pick #70 to take CB Sam Beal. Then Gettleman uses the 17th pick last night on DT Dexter Lawrence, followed by another CB Deandre Baker. The haul is a DT and 2 CBs.
Pick #95 of the 3rd round will most likely be a DE/OLB. Which would give the GMEN a haul of a DT, 2 CBs and DE/OLB. The same exact blueprint Reese used in 2016, it just cost the GMEN $200M and first round top 10 money in 2016.

    The 1992 GMEN REBOOT:
B1) The GMEN have an aging although PRODUCTIVE QB in Phil Simms. The current GM George Young and owner Wellington Mara deem Bill Belichick a GMEN DC at the time “AS NEVER GOING TO BE A HEAD COACH IN THE NFL” and proceed to hire former Broncos HC Dan Reeves as the GMEN HC. Now the magic happens, the Brainiac Brothers Tandem known as Young & Reeves used a 1st round #1 overall pick in the Supplemental Draft on Duke QB Dave Brown to replace a GMEzn LEGEND in Phil Simms. Needless to say, Dave Brown lasted 4 horrific year as a so called GMEN QB.

B2) Now fast forward to 2019. The GMEN have an aging and VERY UNPRODUCTIVE QB in Elisha Manning. So! What does GM Dave Gettleman do? Gettleman takes the 6TH OVERALL PICK IN ROUND 1 and drafts a DUKE QB by the name of Daniel Jones because he looks and acts like the Manning brothers and was mentored by the Manning brother’s mentor David Cutcliffe.

There you have it folks! Two of the worst drafts in GMEN history rebooted together in the 2019 NFL DRAFT.

Last but not least, the 2019 GMEN NFL DRAFT VALUE STAND POINT.
RD1 #6 Daniel Jones QB. This guy Daniel Jones was ranked on most boards as a 3rd or 4th rounder the same rating the GMEN had Davis Webb (2017) and Kyle Lauletta (2018). All while DE Josh Allen and DL Ed Oliver were there for the choice.

RD1 #17 Dexter Lawrence DT. I actually had Dexter Lawrence in this spot in my mock draft. The only reason was due to the fact I had LB Devin White at #6. Remember! Dexter Lawrence is a Snacks Harrison clone to a tee. With NO sideline-to-sideline middle LB for the GMEN, this actually makes the Dexter Lawrence pick moot in my opinion. Montez Sweat should have been the pick at #17, not only is Montez Sweat a value pick, it was an area of need as well.

RD1 #30 DeAndre Baker CB. This pick is just as BAD from a value standpoint as Daniel Jones at #6 earlier in the Draft. The GMEN gave up their 37th, 132nd and 142nd picks for the 30th pick. If anyone does NOT understand draft pick value. GM Dave Gettleman actually paid 70%-80% OVER VALUE for the 30th pick. The GMEN could have just stayed at #37 kept picks #132/#142 and STILL had a choice of DeAndre Baker, Bryon Murphy, Greedy Williams, Justin Laine, Rock Ya-Sin, etc. There was not going to be a run of 7 consecutive CBs from picks #30 to the GMEN pick #37.

This is two GMEN Drafts in a row that Mara, Tisch, GETTLEMAN and Shurmur have ROYALLY SCREWED UP. These 4 JA-BRONEES DO NOT HAVE A CLUE ON HOW TO FIX OR OPERATE THE GMEN ORGANIZATION. PERIOD!!!!!

Like I have stated numerous times since the Dave Gettleman and Putz Shurmur signings, “GET YOUR POPCORN READY AND BE PREPARED THE LOSING TO CONTINUE FOR A LONG WHILE”.

P.S. Anyone notice the pick Bill Belchick and the Pats made at #32 last night? The pick was a BEAST in WR N’Keal Harry and the Patriots have 11 MORE picks to go.
