NFC East Rumors: Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Eagles

Philly.com’s Jeff McLane believes the Eagles might be priced out of the market for LB Jordan Hicks after initially having hope of re-signing him.

“It’ll be a function of the market value and having a walkaway number,” GM Howie Roseman said. “It’s a hard time of year. We have a lot of free agents.”

  • McLane says the new deal for DE Brandon Graham could spell trouble for fellow DEs Chris Long and Michael Bennett, both who expressed displeasure last season at their reduced roles coming off the bench.  Both players could ask for their release.
  • The Eagles are interested in keeping WR Nelson Agholor, but not at his current cap hit of $9.387 million.  A trade could be an option, but McLane thinks the most likely result is Philadelphia signing the slot receiver to an extension.
  • Philadelphia wants to bring back OT Jason Peters, but given the 37-year-old’s health battles the past two seasons, the team will likely try to restructure his deal for protection.
  • Zach Berman reports that Eagles do not have interest in a potential trade for WR Antonio Brown.
  • According to Jeff McLane, the Eagles will attempt to extend OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai this offseason.
  • Tim McManus reports that Eagles DT Fletcher Cox underwent surgery on his right foot following the season.
  • The Eagles met with Missouri WR Emanuel Hall at the NFL Combine. (Mike Kaye)

Giants

  • Dan Duggan of the Athletic writes that his sense regarding the Odell Beckham trade rumors is that the Giants are shopping him, but are willing to listen to offers.
  • Duggan adds that he doesn’t think the Giants will trade Beckham, but adds “there’s too much smoke to continue to dismiss the possibility.
  • As for the report that the Giants are trying to trade Olivier Vernon, Duggan says it’s hard to imagine any team willing to give up much for him.
  • Duggan explains that Vernon is that he’s due $15.5 million in each of the final two seasons of the backloaded contract and it’s unlikely a team would give up valuable draft compensation on top of taking his contract.
  • Duggan believes the most likely outcome is that the Giants will release Vernon.
  • Jordan Raanan says his understanding after speaking to sources is that OSU QB Dwayne Haskins impressed the Giants in their meeting Friday.
  • According to Matt Lombardo, the Giants have no plans to release cornerback Janoris Jenkins or restructure his contract.
  • Ryan Dunleavy reports that Giants QB Kyle Lauletta is recovering well from “minor” surgery.

Redskins

  • Albert Breer isn’t ruling out the Redskins re-signing veteran RB Adrian Peterson as soon as this week.
  • According to Breer, a couple of teams have shown preliminary interest in Peterson, which could accelerate talks with Washington.
  • Armando Salguero reports that the Dolphins have “engaged” the Redskins about a potential trade for QB Ryan Tannehill. However, Salguero says that the “trade talks” are mostly the Dolphins letting teams know Tannehill is available.

  1. In regards to Dwayne Haskins’ meeting going well with the GMEN at the combine. I wonder if the GMEN loved Haskins’ whopping 5.04-40 yard dash. You can’t beat today’s NFL defenses with your arm alone. Unless you are Tom Brady.

As for Olivier Vernon being traded or cut from the GMEN. Who cares really! What has Vernon done for the GMEN except cashing huge paychecks? If I’m not mistaken Olivier Vernon was the only GMEN to kneel during the National Anthem. Karma reveals itself in mysterious ways. AU REVOIR OLIVIER!

By the way. You NFLTR sources keep forgetting to mention that Vernon has NO GUARANTEED money left on his deal. Meaning! The rest of the deal is year to year with nothing owed but $15.5M a season for the next 2 years, which is cost effective for a team taking on guaranteed money standpoint. This goes for any team getting him. This also means that if Vernon under performs as usual it makes him an easy cut. The GMEN eat $8M in dead cap money in 2019.
