NFL Notes: Bears, Bills, Browns, & Titans

Bears

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Bears president Ted Phillips could bring back Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard as the team’s new general manager next year in an attempt to save his job.

Bills

According to Jason La Canfora, the relationship between Bills HC Doug Marrone and GM Doug Whaley has reportedly been strained.

La Canfora adds that with a new ownership group coming in, some changes are likely to be made.

League sources tells La Canfora that Bill Polian’s son, Chris Polian, is viewed as a strong candidate for the Bills GM job if it’s available.

Browns

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Browns rookie QB Johnny Manziel did travel to Pittsburgh with the team, despite being on injured reserve.

This comes just a day after he was not present for Saturday’s walk-through.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Browns had to send security personnel to Manziel’s house on Saturday to try to locate him.

Beyond Manziel, WR Josh Gordon is reportedly viewed as a “perpetual problem” inside the Browns’ organization who “has to go.”

La Canfora adds that there is “mounting frustration” with Manziel and fellow first-round pick CB Justin Gilbert.

Titans

Jason La Canfora reports that a general manager change is possible in Tennessee.

Titans ownership has said in recent weeks that they do not anticipate making changes, but according to La Canfora, finishing as potentially the worst team in the NFL and a nine-game losing streak could be enough to persuade them other wise.

La Canfora mentions that Titans personnel executive Lake Dawson could be an internal candidate if a move were made.
