NFL Notes: Broncos, Eagles, Jaguars, Jets, Saints

Broncos

  • Broncos unsigned third-round WR Carlos Henderson is participating in the team’s rookie minicamp. (Mike Klis)

Eagles

  • Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice believes fifth-round LB Nathan Gerry could have a hard time making the final roster since he is converting from safety and is undersized as a linebacker.

Jaguars

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone said he has yet to speak with LT Branden Albert, who is not participating in the voluntary offseason program. (John Oehser)

“No. Still. None,” Marrone said Saturday, via Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. “Probably don’t expect him to [reach out] now.

Marrone explained that he would just like to hear from Albert about what he plans to do.

I just want to know so when you ask me, I can answer it or when [Coughlin or Caldwell] asks, I can answer them,” Marrone said. “They ask me, ‘Have you talked to him? Is he going to come? Is he going to play?’ I don’t know.

“I’ve been in situations where I’ve had a player on the [franchise] tag and they would say, ‘Hey, I’m not signing the tag, I’m not going to [show up], but I’m going to be working out and training.’ … You just want to know where everyone is at and that’s all I was expecting [from Albert].”

Jets

  • Connor Hughes of NJ Advance Media believes a three-game losing streak would be enough for QB Christian Hackenberg to become the starter.
  • Hughes could see Hackenberg starting by Week 4 or Week 5 if the season gets off to a poor start. Although, Hughes adds that Week 9 or 10 could be another starting point for Hackenberg if the team decides to continue starting Josh McCown.
  • Hughes expects second-year LB Darron Lee to be the Jets’ most improved player in 2017.
  • Hughes does not think the Jets will sign a veteran free agent quarterback like Jay Cutler or Colin Kaepernick.
