NFL Notes: Draft, Bills, Jets, & Texans

Draft

  • USC QB Cody Kessler announced during Sunday’s post game trophy ceremony that he will be back in college next season. (Lindsey Thiry)

Bills

Tim Graham has spoke to a Bills source who mentioned that no football operations changes are imminent at this point in time.

Graham adds that meetings will be held next week, but the overall expectation is that things will remain status quo. However, Graham adds that there are no guarantees.

  • Mike Florio reports that it’s  believed in some league circles that the Bills will hire Brian Ayrault for a key front-office position.
  • There has also been some talk that former GM Bill Polian could be brought in some capacity, even though he recently denied this idea.

Jets

  • Ian Rapoport mentions that four GM candidates for the Jets include: George Paton (Vikings), Ryan Pace (Saints), Trent Kirchner (Seahawks), and Will McClay (Cowboys).

Texans

Jason La Canfora reports that Texans GM Rick Smith is likely to have an expanded role in the organization in 2015, beyond just football operations.

According to La Canfora, this move could include someone else could taking over the general manager for the Texans.

Texans HC Bill O’Brien is expected to have a “significant say” in the team’s next general manager.

Candidates could include: Eagles personal man Tom Gamble, Patriots college scouting director Jon Robinson, Patriots personnel man Nick Caserio, Texans college scouting director Mike Maccagnan and Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine.
