Home Giants NFL Notes: Jim Harbaugh, Chuba Hubbard, Leonard Williams

NFL Notes: Jim Harbaugh, Chuba Hubbard, Leonard Williams

Jim Harbaugh

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports mentioned during an appearance on “Tiki & Tierney” that Jim Harbaugh is likely better suited for the college game than the NFL.

“I think he’s better suited for college,” Glazer said, via Radio.com. “A guy like Jim, every three years, he has basically a new group of guys. His guys move on and they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re tired of it.’ And they move on, and a new group comes in. I personally think he’s better suited for college than he is for the NFL.

According to Glazer, there has not been NFL interest in Harbaugh for some time now, despite some recent speculation.

“There hasn’t been [NFL interest in him] the last few years, so I don’t know why it would suddenly come to light this year,” Glazer said. “There might be [a team interested], but I personally think he’s better suited for college.”

When asked if he had heard anything about NFL teams being interested in Harbaugh, Glazer said simply: “No. I have not.”

Chuba Hubbard

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy announced Saturday that RB Chuba Hubbard won’t play another college game and is instead preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft.

“Chuba’s not going to play,” Gundy said, via Pro Football Talk. “Chuba’s chosen to go to the NFL.”

Hubbard is considered to be one of the top running back prospects in the country.

Leonard Williams

With a career-high 8.5 sacks and four games remaining this season, the narrative has definitely changed for Giants’ DL Leonard Williams. Many are now of the opinion that the team will do all that it can to retain the pass rusher who was questioned following his acquisition via trade.

Giants’ HC Joe Judge has high praise for the way that Williams has performed this season.

“The one thing that really shows up, I think is he has tremendous finish right now of getting to the quarterback or in pursuit getting to the runner,” said Judge, via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.tv. “He’s made a lot of disruptive plays. A lot of things don’t show up on stat sheets. If they’re doubling him, someone else is single, so where’s the pressure coming from? There are a lot of things that Leonard does by just kind of the caliber of athlete he is. But to me, the finish he’s playing with is really making a big difference for us as a team.”

A former NFL executive and an NFL agent spoke anonymously about the future that Williams and the Giants could possibly have in the Big Apple.

“You’d have to think his priority is staying with the Giants,” said the former NFL executive. “They seem to love him there. They found a way to get the most out of him. It’s a perfect fit. And he might only be scratching the surface. Why would he want to leave?”

“A deal with the Giants makes too much sense,” said the NFL agent. “They’re not going to be able to get a player like him on the market, and he might not be able to get the money he wants on the market. The Giants can afford to give him $20-22 million per year, maybe with an out in the deal so he gets another shot at free agency in a few years when the cap is back to normal. They’re a good match right now. It’s working. And when it’s working, both sides find a way.”

Vacchiano also adds that Williams could very well return to New York due to several other big-name pass rushers being slated to hit the market, including Yannick Ngakoue, Matt Judon, Bud Dupree, and Shaq Barrett.
