NFL Notes: Jimmy Garoppolo, Malcolm Butler, Eagles, Ravens

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports writes that the Patriots “must strongly consider” trading backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo if they want to push for back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

La Canfora believes they could still get a great return for Garoppolo, even though we’re four weeks into the regular season. Tom Brady is still playing at a high level and it would be very difficult to retain both of them next year.

The Patriots defense has been a big issue for New England and moving Garoppolo could net them some pieces to bolster the unit.

La Canfora suggests the 49ers as a team that would make sense in a trade for Garoppolo and lists DL DeForest Buckner, DL Arik Armstead or S Eric Reid as upgrade options.

Beyond the 49ers, La Canfora would also make calls about Chargers DEs Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa and Giants S Landon Collins just to see if they would be willing to them in a deal for Garoppolo.

As for trading CB Malcolm Butler, La Canfora mentions that it would be tough for the Patriots to get impact players in return for him at this point in the NFL season.

Eagles

Eagles LB Mychal Kendricks expressed some frustration last week with the fact that he hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to show what he can do this year.

“I haven’t been able to play,” Kendricks said, via Philly.com. “I could have been doing this. … You only have so much time to do this [stuff], man.”

Kendricks added that he doesn’t know if anything will change for him moving forward.

“I don’t know. Who knows, man?” Kendricks said. “All I can do is do what I do.
