NFL Rumors: Cedric Benson Returning To Cincinnati?

Despite the drama that sounds players like Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco and Terrell OwensCedric Benson could end up being the teams top priority once free agency opens.

Benson has already mentioned that the team would have to consider a change in offensive direction before he would consider returning. Cincinnati can check that off now that Jay Gruden will be running the teams offense and from Benson’s recent remarks, it seems as though it has him interested in re-signing.

“‘I intend on pounding the ball and being able to pound the ball,'” Benson said Tuesday, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Well, that’s my kind of guy. That’s my game. I’m excited about this guy. I think Gruden is exactly what Cincinnati needs. I think it’s going to be an exciting season.”

Benson sees himself as a valuable asset to any team.

“I would think if you’re the owner of a team, you would want to pay a guy like me,” Benson speculated. “I’ve been solid, I’ve produced, you know what you’re going to get from me. I want to come back [to Cincinnati]. I want to play there. I’ve gotten a lot of love and support from people. I hope it works out.”

There will be teams with interest in him once free agency begins but that doesn’t mean that teams will want to commit to paying him large salary for the years to come. Runningbacks suffer from declining value faster than most positions which is something that will likely affect the total worth of his next deal.
