Panthers Worked Out Eight Players Including CB Dexter McDougle

According to Howard Balzer, the Carolina Panthers brought in eight free agents for workouts this week, including CB Dexter McDougle and K Chandler Catanzaro.

The full list of tryouts for the Panthers includes:

  1. Ks Chandler Catanzaro
  2. K Sam Ficken
  3. K Matthew McCrane
  4. K Caleb Sturgis
  5. CB Dexter McDougle
  6. CB Josh Thornton
  7. LS Zach Triner
  8. P Shane Tripucka

McDougle, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Jets back in 2014. The Jets waived him coming out of the preseason back in 2016 and later signed him to their practice squad.

The Eagles would acquire McDougle from the Jets in exchange for S Terrence Brooks during the preseason last year. However, Philadelphia later reversed course and waived him.

McDougle has had brief stints with the Saints, Jaguars and Lions the past year or so before returning to the Eagles last month.

In 2018, McDougle has appeared in two games and recorded five tackles and a pass defense for the Eagles.

Catanzaro, 27, signed on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson back in 2014. He has spent all three years of his career with the Cardinals before they elected to not tender him a contract last year, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The Jets later signed him to a one-year contract last March and after a year in New York, Catanzaro agreed to a contract with the Buccaneers this offseason.

In 2018, Catanzaro appeared in nine games for the Buccaneers and 11 of 15 field goal attempts (73.3 percent) to go along with 23 of 27 extra point tries (85.2 percent).
