Patriots Hosted CB C.J. Spillman For A Workout

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports that the Patriots hosted free agent CB C.J. Spillman for a workout on Wednesday.

The Patriots have moved on from a number of cornerbacks in recent months, but they also brought in Tarell Brown for a workout this week, so they are clearly looking to add someone before training camp.

Spillman, 29, originally signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall back in 2009. He lasted just over a year with the team before he was waived and later claimed by the 49ers.

San Francisco wound up signing him to a three-year extension back in 2012, but he was later cut loose at the start of the 2013 season. The Cowboys would sign him to a contract just a few days later.

In 2014, Spillman appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and recorded 17 tackles and a pass defense.

  1. Geeeeez. Another bum. I really wish we’d tried to go after Verner or Flowers before they’d re-signed with their teams. Now we have to hope that Butler, Ryan and the two rookie DBs can handle the situation we’re in. But that leaves us very thin. Maybe Fletcher will learn to play better than he did in Philly? Maybe Wilson and Harmon will finally take the leap up the ladder – of improvement? Maybe our new front 7 will make it unnecessary to have any freakin’ secondary at all. lol Yep. Let’s go with that.
