Raiders Expect To Pick Up S Karl Joseph’s Fifth-Year Option

On Thursday, Raiders HC Jon Gruden told reporters that he expects to pick up S Karl Joseph‘s fifth-year option in the coming months, per Scott Bair.

Joseph came up last year as a possible trade candidate before the deadline, but the Raiders ultimately elected to hold on to him.

It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

Joseph, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $11.88 million contract and set to make base salaries of $1.53 million and $2.07 million over the next two years of the agreement.

The Raiders have a fifth-year to pick up on Joseph in 2019.

In 2018, Joseph appeared in 13 games for the Raiders and recorded 47 tackles, two sacks, an interception and two pass defenses.
