Ravens Won’t Pick Up DE Chris Canty’s 2016 Option

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have informed DE Chris Canty that they will not be picking up his 2016 option.

  • According to Zrebiec, Canty still wants to continue his NFL career and isn’t ready for retirement.
  • Adam Caplan mentions that Canty had a $150,000 roster bonus due on March 9.

Canty, 33, returned to the Ravens last year on a two-year, $4.65 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus. He was set to make a bases salary of $2 million for the 2016 season.

This move will save the Ravens close to $2 million in cap room for the 2016 season, according to Zrebiec.

In 2015, Canty appeared in nine games for the Ravens and recorded 19 tackles, one sack, and a pass defense.
