Redskins Eyeing Mike Tomlin As Next Head Coach?

According to Jason La Canfora, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has his eyes set on Steelers HC Mike Tomlin as his top choice to be the next head coach for Washington.

Ed Werder echoes the sentiment that Tomlin is on Snyder’s list of potential coaching candidates for Washington after firing Jay Gruden Monday morning. Per Werder, the list also includes Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy and Buccaneers DC Todd Bowles.

La Canfora says it remains to be seen how feasible it will be to acquire Tomlin, who signed a one-year extension through 2021 with the Steelers this offseason.

If Pittsburgh, currently 1-4, doesn’t fire Tomlin after the season, the only way Snyder could acquire him would be via trade.

Tomlin, 47, was hired as the Steelers head coach back in 2007 and managed to win a Super Bowl in just his second year with the franchise.

In total, Tomlin has a career record of 126-70-1 (63.9 percent), which includes eight playoff appearances in 12 seasons. The Steelers have been to two Super Bowls under Tomlin.

We’ll have more on Tomlin and the Redskins as the news is available.
