Report: 49ers ILB Patrick Willis Underwent Hand Surgery

ESPN’s Mike Sando reports that 49ers ILB Patrick Willis will require surgery on his slightly fractured right hand.

Willis is not expected to play in the preseason and will be sidelined for a few weeks. He is, however, expected to be back in time to play in the first game of the season.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that 49ers ILB Patrick Willis has been diagnosed with a slight fracture in his right hand.

  • Mortensen adds that the team will to proceed with caution and that Willis is expected to be ready for the start of season.

Willis was injured during Wednesday’s practice after he collided with FB Britt Miller during a blitz pickup drill.

Fellow ILB NaVorro Bowman missed didn’t practice on Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday’s practice because of a groin strain.

Clearly, these aren’t major concerns at this point in time, but there are worth monitoring in the coming weeks. It’s worth noting that Willis played through a broken right hand and was still able to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
