Saints Fire 5 Assistant Coaches Including Joe Vitt

Alex Marvez of the Sporting News is reporting that the Saints have fired five assistant coaches including assistant head coach/LBs coach Joe Vitt, DL coach Bill Johnson, special teams coordinator Greg McMahon, assistant special teams Stan Kwan and defensive assistant/LBs James Willis.

It’s interesting to see the Saints make some notable changes to their coaching staff, given the rumors circulating that HC Sean Payton could be traded to the Rams.

Payton, of course, has denied having interest in leaving New Orleans and the fact that he’s making changes to their coaching seems to imply that he expects to be back next year.

With the coaching changes largely coming on the defensive side of the ball, DC Dennis Allen figures to have more say in the hiring process.

Vitt, 62, is the most notable of this group considering that he actually filled in for Payton back in 2012 when Payton was suspended one year for Bountygate.

During his season as the Saints interim head coach, Vitt led the Saints to a record of five and five.
