- New Orleans placed rookie OLB Khairi Fortt on injured reserve with the designation to return in order to create a roster spot for Meachem.
The Saints released Meachem this past weekend as the trimmed their roster down to 53 players.
Meachem, 29, left New Orleans for San Diego back in 2012 when he signed a four-year contract worth $25.5 million with the Chargers. Things obviously didn’t go well for him in a new setting and he wound up being released in September of last year.
In 2013, Meachem totaled 16 receptions for 324 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Fortt, 22, was taken in the fourth round of this year’s draft, but he’ll now miss the first half of his rookie season.
He played two years for Penn State before transferring to California last year. In 2013, he started all nine games for California totaled 64 tackles, 0.5 sack and 3.5 tackles for a loss.
