Titans Place WR Justin Hunter On Season-Ending I.R.

Update:

————-

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Titans plan to place WR Justin Hunter on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday with a lacerated spleen.

Hunter sustained the spleen injury during Sunday’s loss to the Texans and has been in the hospital the past few days.

Titans HC Ken Whisenhunt said on Monday that Hunter was “doing well” and should be released from the hospital within the “next day or so.”

Given the severity of his injury, it’s not surprising to hear that the Titans are expected to shut him down for the remainder of the season, especially when you consider that they have won just two games this season.

The Titans are likely to move forward with Kendall Wright, Nate Washington and Derek Hagan as their top-three receivers.

Hunter, 23, still has two years remaining on four-year, $5.424 million rookie contract. He’ll make base salaries of $898,104 and $1,144,656 over the next two seasons.

His 2014 season comes to an end with him recording 28 receptions, 498 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
