AFC Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Ravens

Broncos

It took Broncos QB Drew Lock a while to acclimate to the NFL level after being drafted in the second round last year. An injury that put him on injured reserve and cut short his practice reps for the first half of the season didn’t help. But Lock showed enough in his five starts at the end of the year to prompt Denver to build around him this offseason. And while Lock is learning a new offense, he says it’s coming much faster to him in his second season.

“There’s similar carry-over from the last one to where you can pocket that,” Lock said via Aric DiLalla of the team’s website. “You don’t necessarily have to study that as much because you’ve kind of already got that mindset down and know what they’re talking about as far as older stuff. But even the newer stuff I’m getting taught, it’s easier for me to learn because I’ve found the way that fits me best, as far as learning a new offense goes. Picking this one up has happened a little [faster] — I’d say, 10 times as quick as I did the first time.”

  • Football Outsiders via ESPN lists backup quarterback as the biggest hole left on the Broncos’ roster, as they have a roster built to compete but the only alternative if Lock is hurt or falters is Jeff Driskel

Chargers

  • Chargers HC Anthony Lynn admitted that it will be “pretty hard” for undrafted rookies to make teams this season without spring practices. Lynn thinks some players might get “overlooked” but says it’s just the reality of the situation. (Daniel Popper)
  • Regarding RB Justin Jackon, Lynn mentioned that he loves what Jackson brings, but added: Justin Jackson has got to stay on the football field.” (Daniel Popper)

Ravens

Ravens RB Mark Ingram believes the addition of second-round pick J.K. Dobbins could give them the best backfield in the NFL.

“I like his mindset, I like his attitude, I like the way he run the ball. Just bring him and his talents to our room that’s already special; our backfield is gonna be the best in the league for sure,” Ingram said, via NFL.com. “We’re all looking forward to it, being playmakers for the team and help us win the championship.”

“I like the young bull,” Ingram added. “I’ve been following his game, for a while. I like the way he totes the rock for sure.
