AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • Broncos CB Chris Harris, who recently came up in trade rumors, told reporters on Wednesday that it caught him by surprise because he expects to retire as a Bronco. (Nicki Jhabvala)

Chiefs

  • Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder announced Wednesday that LB Terrance Smith suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game and is now out for the season.
  • Chiefs designated S Daniel Sorensen to return from injured reserve. (NFLTR)

Raiders

  • Raiders HC Jon Gruden told reporters on Wednesday that he isn’t considering trading QB Derek Carr: “I don’t see us making any more trades. Certainly, I don’t see us trading our quarterback.” (Michael Gehlken)
  • Regarding Carr, Gruden thinks he’ll be fine moving forward: “I think Carr is going to be fine. We’ve got a lot of moving pieces now on offense, and it’s tough on a quarterback. …I’m going to keep supporting him.” (Michael Gehlken)
  • Gruden referred to RB Doug Martin as a “feature back” and said he’s “ready to go.” (Michael Gehlken)
  • Gruden explained that said the plan wasn’t to trade Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper once he took the head coaching job with the Raiders: “No it wasn’t. No it was not… We’re doing what we think is best for the Raiders, the Oakland Raiders and the future of the Raiders.” (Michael Gehlken)
