Giants Note: Landon Collins, Eli Manning, Trade Deadline

Landon Collins

Giants S Landon Collins, who had come up as a potential trade candidate, says it’s a dream of his to finish out his career in New York.

“Honestly it’s always been my dream to be one of those guys like LT, Michael Strahan, those guys that finish their years on one team,” Collins said on ESPN Radio in New York, via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. “It’s a dream of mine to do that. If I can, it’s a blessing in my eyes.”

Eli Manning

Former Giants VP of player evaluation Marc Ross mentioned during an appearance on the NFL Network that it’s time for New York to bench QB Eli Manning.

“I think that’s what you have to do,’’ Ross said, via the New York Post. “This is where they are right now. Their fortunes are tied to Kyle Lauletta, who was drafted in the fourth round out of Richmond. Wow. This is what they’re really banking on. They can’t get worse. You might as well try something different and see what happens. . . .

“In the NFL you have to move forward. You can’t go backwards. At this point I think everybody kind of knows that you have to move forward. You have to move on if you want to win. What is your goal? Is it to win? Make people happy? Or sacrifice other things to keep reputations in line?’’

Trade Deadline

  • Ralph Vacchiano reports that the Giants got “plenty” of trade offers on Tuesday’s deadline but were not willing to exchange players for what they were offered.
  • Vacchiano adds that the futures for S Landon Collins, DE Olivier Vernon, and CB Janoris Jenkins are “uncertain” given Collins’ contract is expiring, while Vernon and Jenkins’ have “unaffordable” deals.
  • Vacchiano believes that the Giants will “embrace” their rebuilding phase this offseason, with the possibility of making “any player” approaching 30-years old disposable, including LT Nate Solder.

  1. I agree with Marc Ross’ POV. It goes a lot further than the QB situation. For instance Gettleman has a head coach Shurmur and a oc Shula with two different offensive philosophies, that won’t work. The hiring of Hal Hunter as OL Coach is the worst move by far. Gettleman preached this very offseason that ” an offensive line needs to be strong up the middle (rg, center and lg) for a QB to feel safe.” So Gettleman dumps $62m on a LT. Wrong move based on your own words. Gentleman then brings in Johnathan Stewart to be a mentor and situational RB. Wrong move here as well. Gentleman then gives $95m to a talented YET very obvious team distraction. When Gettleman knows he’s making Barkley the new face of the franchise. Barkley is on pace for a 100/1,000 as a receiver and another 1,000 as a rusher. The $95m could have been better spent elsewhere. Move Shepard or Engram to the outside, you don’t lose much. Now! With things the way they are on both sides of the ball. The GMEN are at least 3-4 years away from being considered a playoff/super bowl team. That means a lot of young talent will be wasted on a rebuild, which has already started with horrendous moves.
