Giants Planning To Start Kyle Lauletta At Some Point This Season

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that the Giants still intend to play rookie QB Kyle Lauletta at some point this season, even though Eli Manning has been on a somewhat successful run the past few weeks.

Vacchiano mentions that a quarterback is, obviously, not expected while the Giants are still pushing for potential a playoff spot.

A source with knowledge of the Giants plans tells Vacchiano that the Giants are aware that they need to see Lauletta on the field before they head into this crucial offseason and they’d even like to get Alex Tanney in for at least a few series this year too.

One possibility for Laulette would be to have him take over for the second half of games when one team has a comfortable lead.

Either way, Vacchiano says that the Giants are intent on not repeating their mistakes of a year ago when they never got a look at then-rookie quarterback Davis Webb before eventually the year was over.

Lauletta, 23, was selected in the fourth round of this year’s draft by the Giants. He signed a four-year, $3,167,700 with the Giants and stands to make a base salary of $485,000 for the 2018 season.

During his four-year college career at Richmond, Lauletta threw for 10,465 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes to go along with 73 touchdowns and 35 interceptions over the course of 40 games.

  1. Kyle Lauletta will not see the field this year, believe it. The GMEN will stumble to a 5 to 7 win season this year. Which would leave them in the 10-20 pick range for the 2019 NFL Draft.
My guess is The Gettleman Crew were not that impressed with OUs Herbert’s talent. So! The plan now is to let the fans think the GMEN found their winning ways. While making Manning look like he knows what he is doing on Sundays. Regardless! Manning still needs to go on his way. And Lauletta has nothing as far as a future starting QB. Lauletta has no arm strength, some mobility in the pocket and forget about the deep pass.
Mara and Gettleman will re-work Manning’s contract to lessen the 2019 cap hit. Probably a new 2 year deal with a low $$$$$ 3rd year option. Even though Mara would like to give Manning a brand new fully guaranteed 5 year deal worth Aaron Rodgers’ like money.
Remember! Mr. Mara….. Your daddy, George Young and Dan Reeves made Phil Simms a salary cap casualty to end Simms’ career in ’93, after going 11-5. Yet! Manning has been to the playoffs 6 times since 2004. And once in the last 6 or 7 years.
