NFC West Notes: Cardinals, 49ers, Seahawks

Cardinals

  • Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline reports Falcons’ impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper is expected to garner interest from the Cardinals, Packers, and Seahawks this offseason.

49ers

49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t had to do much to get San Francisco to the Super Bowl. He has just one touchdown pass along with one interception, and he only threw the ball eight times in the 49ers’ blowout win against the Packers in the NFC title game. However, 49ers OT Mike McGlinchey says there’s zero doubt on the team that if asked to do more against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, Garoppolo will deliver.

“One — he’s the best guy ever, and he prepares unbelievably, he’s cool, calm and collected in those big moments, and two — and most importantly of his track record,” McGlinchey said via NBC Sports’ Jessica Kleinschmidt. “Like four or five different times this year, he has come through in the clutchest of ways and I don’t know what games people have been watching. . . . He has won us huge, playoff-like games.”

  • Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the 49ers are “making a late push” to retain DBs coach Joe Woods from becoming Browns HC Kevin Stefanski‘s new defensive coordinator.

Seahawks

  • Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline reports Falcons’ impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper is expected to garner interest from the Cardinals, Packers, and Seahawks this offseason.
  • Boston College announced Seahawks QB coach Steve Shimko joined the team as the new TE coach. (Twitter)
