Mike Petraglia reports that Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is out for the season with a hip injury.

This explains why the Patriots added some running back depth on Tuesday by signing Montee Ball to their practice squad.
Blount, 29, is in the final year of his two-year, $1.73 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $750,000 for the 2015 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next March.
Blount’s 2015 season comes to an end with him appearing in 12 games and rushing for 703 yards on 165 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with six receptions for 43 yards receiving and seven total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 running back out of 67 qualifying players.
