Saints Waive Dejaun Butler, Rashad Lawrence, Robenson Therezie & Patrick Murray

Saints HC Sean Payton told reporters (per Josh Katzenstein) that they’ve waived Dejaun Butler, Rashad Lawrence, Robenson Therezie and Patrick Murray on Saturday.

This will clear some roster spots for their new additions (NFLTR) including DE Jason Jones, TE Braedon Bowman, and DT John Hughes. New Orleans also signed WR Xavier Rush and DB Malik Foreman.

Lawrence, 25, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern back in May of 2015. He was waived at the start of the season and later signed a future/reserve contract with the Bears.

Chicago elected to release him coming out of the 2016  preseason, but he managed to catch on with the Jaguars at the start of the regular season. The Saints signed him to a future/reserve contract this past January.

Lawrence has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Murray, 26, signed on with the Buccaneers on a future/reserve back in January of 2014. However, he wasn’t able to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason and was later placed on their injured reserve list after clearing waivers.

The Buccaneers, unsurprisingly, placed Murray on waivers after this year’s draft and plan to move forward with second-round K Roberto Aguayo. The Browns later signed him to a contract in June of last year before placing him on injured reserve a few weeks into the regular season and eventually cutting him loose.

Murray signed on with the Saints a few days ago.

In 2016, Murray appeared in 16 games and converted one of two field goal attempts to go along with three of four extra point tries.
