Saints Signing RB Alvin Kamara To Five-Year, $75M Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints are signing RB Alvin Kamara to a five-year extension worth $75 million in new money.

According to Rapoport, Kamara’s contract is worth $77.133 million in total and includes a $15 million signing bonus. There’s also $34.333 million in guaranteed money in this deal.

At $15 million per season in new money, Kamara is now the No. 2 highest-paid running back behind only Christian McCaffrey.

Reports from earlier in the week mentioned that the two parties were “extremely close” to an agreement and it looks like they were able to hammer out the remaining details before Week 1’s game.

At one point, the Saints made it known that they were open to trade Kamara, but their asking price was very high and it may have just been posturing on their part.

Kamara, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2017. Kamara was in the final year of his four-year, $3.85 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $977,500 for the 2020 season.

Kamara was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.

In 2019, Kamara appeared in 14 games for the Saints and rushed for 797 yards on 171 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 81 receptions for 533 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.
