NFC East Notes: Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Eagles

Giants

Giants RB Saquon Barkley tells Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report that the criticism of QB Eli Manning bothers him because “it’s not his fault.

“Yeah, it bothers me. I’m not going to lie because it’s not his fault,” Barkley said. “He’s not the reason why. We love to put the blame on one person, but it takes 11 men, a team and an organization all together to win.”

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden explained that there’s no developmental process in Washington for rookie quarterbacks and the expectation is that they going to help them win games right away.

There is no developmental process here. This is not Triple-A baseball where we’re trying to develop a pitcher here,” Gruden said, via Redskins.com. “We’re trying to win a game right now. If we feel like we draft a quarterback in the first, second, third or seventh round and he’s going to start Day 1, we expect great things from him and the players will expect great things from him. Ryan Kerrigan is not expecting us to come out and just build for the future; we’ve got to win now. Josh Norman, same way. Landon Collins didn’t come here to be good in 2034. They came here to be good and compete and win a Super Bowl this year. So whoever that player is, that position of quarterback, high expectations for us from us. That’s the way it’s going to be.”

  • Gruden was asked who will be the team’s starting running between Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson“That’s an interesting dilemma right there. Number one, Guice has got to get healthy. . . . He’s young, I’m sure it’ll be effortless for him to get back in shape, but still, we’re talking about a major knee injury for a running back. So, it’s something we have to really look at and make sure he’s 100 percent. And make sure he still runs with the same type of energy and charisma and effort he played with before the injury, because sometimes those injuries have an effect on you mentally. I don’t think it will with Derrius . . . but still, you never know.” (Washington Post)

  1. Well! Saquon Barkey should review all of Elisha Manning’s performances since 2004, especially the last 7 seasons. Maybe! Barkley will sing a different tune. I highly doubt it, since it seems Barkley is a YES man. Now! Starting in 2019 Barkley gets to shoulder the entire load of being the new “face of the franchise”. Every game Barkley plays will be under the microscope of criticism.

Also! According to GMEN GM Dave Gettleman prior to the 2018 NFL Draft. This question was asked on GIANT BLUE with Bob Papa.

Bob Papa: Dave. Do you envision the GIANTS taking Penn State RB Saquon Barkley with #2 pick in the draft.

Dave Gettleman: “In this draft my first as GIANTS GM, I’m looking for gold jacket type players in the draft. Taking a running back is not out of the question. A runnng back of Saquon Barkley’s talent not only gives the GIANTS a legit running game. But! A RB like Barkley makes everyone on the offense better. A great RB will make the QB and the offensive line look much better.”

Well! Mr. Gettleman, that theory of yours backfired as well. Your Anointed One did not help the GMEN in any aspect. A lot of Barkley’s runs and receptions were chunk plays and screens, most of the highlights coming very early in games and late in games. And in case anyone had not seen those 16 games in 2018. The games were offensive starved complete blowouts for the most part. And 12 of the games had both so called GIANTS’ game changers Barkley and Beckham on the field together. Yet! The GMEN Brass will tell you Barkley had 2,000 plus yards from scrimmage as a rookie. And 10 plus games of 100 yards from scrimmage, plus 80+ receptions.

YEAH! And Barkley and all his stats still had the GMEN overall running game ranked in the bottom half of the league in 2018. And in case anyone had not noticed the last 3 games against the Colts, Titans and Cowpokes respectively. Those three team’s defenses showed the blue print on shutting Barkley down. There was only ONE play of 60 plus yards against the Cowboys worth mentioning.

P.S. Hey Saquon! Everyone knows your QB Elisha Manning should have retired 5 years ago. Everyone except you it seems. You will learn very quickly after another disappointing 2019. And the reason for the 2019 failure is once again Elisha Manning’s horrendous play. And another season of your talent will be wasted, because ownership is too sentimental to say the very least.
